![]() ![]() Anecdotal reports suggest that service members with particularly high levels of occupational blast exposure, chronic exposure, experience negative neurological effects, but relevant research has not shown conclusive evidence of such effects ( 1, 2). Exposure to occupational blast (i.e., low-level blast) is not known to result in acute injury neurological effects, if any, would be cumulative in nature and not recognizable as diagnosis of traumatic brain injury (TBI) in standard of care medicine. The common factor across occupational roles, repeated blast exposure, has been of increasing concern as a cause of negative neurological effects, especially in context of similar increasing concern for brain injury from repeated head impacts in contact sports like American football. These occupational roles will differ in blast exposure magnitude, frequency, periodicity, or concomitant factors such as acoustic insult, aerobic exertion, and psychological stress. Such roles include indirect fires (artillery, mortar), explosive breaching, and antiarmor weapon operation. The term “occupational blast exposure” is intended to denote repeated exposures to low-level explosive blast events that occur as part of training and operational activities experienced by personnel in designated roles in the military and law enforcement. Separate studies, observational and epidemiological, are underway to evaluate further the potential for occupational risk, but the evidence presented here may indicate near-term opportunities to guide efforts to reduce neurosensory risk among exposed service members. ![]() Other hypothesized risks from occupational exposure may manifest as symptomology not visible in the medical system or current standard of care. This study documents that service members in occupations that likely include repeated exposure to blast are at some increased risk for neurosensory conditions that present in medical evaluations. Other hypothesized effects (i.e., neurological outcomes) were smaller and were associated with acute exposure. The clearest finding was higher risk among blast-exposed MOSs for ambulatory encounters for tinnitus, with adjusted risk ratios of 1.19 (CI 1.03–1.37), 1.21 (CI 1.16–1.26), and 1.31 (CI 1.18–1.45) across career time points. ![]() ![]() These two groups were compared in hospitalizations, outpatient visits, pharmacy, and disability ratings. Records from a population of 50,254 service members in MOSs with a high likelihood of occupational blast exposure were compared to records from a matched cohort of 50,254 service members in MOSs with a lower likelihood of occupational blast exposure. We hypothesized that populations exposed to blast by virtue of their military occupation would have poorer global medical outcomes than cohorts less likely to have been occupationally exposed. The purpose of the present study was to examine medical records for evidence of blast-associated effects that may have clinical significance in current standard of care. Despite the challenge, occupational blast-associated effects in humans are emerging in ongoing research. Instead, effects, if any, should be expected to be incremental in nature and to vary among individuals of different susceptibilities and exposure histories. Any gross effects from such occupational blast exposure on health or performance should be expected to have been already identified and addressed by affected military units through changes to their standard training protocols. The study of effects associated with human exposure to repeated low-level blast during training or operations of select military occupational specialties (MOS) challenges medical science because acute negative effects that might follow such exposures cannot be expected to be clear or prevalent. ![]() ![]() A combination device that serves as both the incubator & hatcher at the same time can work fine but at a slighter demand. That’s what you call a 100% increase in profit. According to a rough estimate, a lay hen can hatch 25 to 30 eggs a year while on the other hand, the same hen can produce 300 chicks a year via an incubator. So, by using the incubator technology, you can hatch as many eggs you want depending on the nutritional conditions of hens. This makes the clear indication that you are losing your chance to increase the offspring & hence losing your profit eventually. If you let your hen lay eggs & then cover those to provide heat & humidity then the hen will not lay more eggs at that time. However, according to some researchers incubators are proved to be more helpful & responsible as compared to hens during the overall hatching process. ![]() ![]() ![]() In the Properties window, go to the “ Compatibility” tab.ģ. Sigma 18-35mm F1.8 DC HSM specifications Date introducedĬanon EF, Nikon F, Pentax K, Sigma SA, Sony A The 18-35mm covers a modest 2x zoom range. The pictures below illustrate the focal length range from wide to telephoto (on Canon APS-C, 1.6x). Initially available in Canon EF, Nikon F and Sigma SA mounts Pentax K and Sony Alpha to follow.Ring-type ultrasonic focus motor with full-time manual override.18-35mm focal length (approx 28-50mm equivalent). But can an F1.8 zoom really deliver good results? Let's find out. Overall the 18-35mm F1.8 is a really intriguing product, and we applaud Sigma for pushing the boundaries of lens design ahead of the more conservative camera manufacturers. Crucially, at a street price of around $800 / £650 at the time of writing, for existing APS-C shooters it's an awful lot cheaper than buying a 24-70mm F2.8 and a full frame SLR to go with it. So while it may not quite match the capabilities of a 24-70mm F2.8 on a full frame SLR, for existing APS-C users it should offer something very close. The lens's 27-53mm equivalent focal length range is obviously a little limited, but should still be rather useful for such applications as wedding and events photography. It also incorporates several of the thoughtful design touches that we were impressed by on the 35mm F1.4, including an improved AF switch, and a large grip area on the base of the barrel for better handling. It's compatible with Sigma's new USB dock which allows you to fine-tune autofocus behaviour in much more detail than the AF microadjust corrections found on SLRs, which should help get the best possible focus accuracy and make the most of the large aperture. Essentially it means that APS-C shooters will be able to use lower ISOs when shooting wide open in low light and get similar levels of image noise, substantially negating one of the key advantages of switching to full frame.Īs we'd expect at this level, the lens uses an ultrasonic autofocus motor for fast, silent focusing. This is important as it's a major determinant of image quality. By this we mean that it will be able to project an image that's just over twice as bright onto a sensor that's slightly less than half the area, meaning the same total amount of light is used to capture the image. What's more, combined with an APS-C sensor, the system will also offer effectively the same light-gathering capability as an F2.8 lens on full frame. Sigma's choice of F1.8 as maximum aperture isn't a coincidence it means that the lens will offer the same control over depth of field as an F2.8 zoom does on full frame. This all bodes well for the company's latest offering - the record-breaking 18-35mm F1.8 DC HSM, which is the first constant F1.8 SLR zoom lens to hit the market. Most recently the 35mm F1.4 DG HSM impressed us with its exceptional optical quality at a very competitive price. The original (and recently-replaced) 30mm F1.4 EX DC HSM has long been one of our favourite lenses for APS-C SLRs, and the 50mm F1.4 EX DG HSM grabbed our attention back in 2008 due to its sharpness at large apertures. Over the past few years we've seen increasingly ambitious concepts appear from the company's design studios. This means it can no longer compete in the same way on price alone, and it's therefore switched its focus towards higher-value offerings. But this has changed over the part decade or so while other companies have shifted manufacturing to cheaper locations such as China and Thailand, Sigma has stubbornly refused to move from its factory in Aizu, Japan. In the film era it was best known for relatively inexpensive lenses that undercut the camera makers' own equivalents in terms of price. Sigma has a long history as a lens maker, having been founded over 50 years ago. ![]() |
